Short background story
Rwanda established a fully-fledged Embassy in Budapest, Hungary effective in January 2024.
Hungary is represented to Rwanda by its Embassy based in Nairobi, Kenya, and a diplomatic representation office headed by a Chargé d’affaires based in Kigali, Rwanda.
Rwanda and Hungary enjoy excellent bilateral relations and cooperation focus on education, water and sanitation, health and ICT sectors.
There have been high level exchange visits including, the State Visit of President Katalin Novák of Hungary to Rwanda in July 2023, working visit of Hon. Vicent Biruta, former Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Rwanda to Hungary ion February 2020 and Hon. Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary visit to Rwanda in November 2021. Minister of Foreign Affairsand International Cooperation of Rwanda held working in Hungary in May 2025.
The two countries signed the following Memorandum of Understanding and Agreements:
